Solutions for Gurgaon
Principle 4: Smart Infrastructure
Principle 4: Smart Infrastructure
Leverage Open Spaces for Underground Utilities
The open space network of GMUC has been planned to allow access to a significantly large catchment area. A growing city is often marred with up-gradation and maintenance issues of utilities like sewage lines, water supply, electricity and communications. The open space network must be leveraged to allow planning of all the underground utilities within the boundaries of open spaces. This will help in curbing constant digging and relaying of urban streets for maintenance and upkeep.
Capture Rain Water
Rain water must be collected at every level and channelised to drain into the open spaces. The water collection within open spaces can mitigate flash flooding and help in recharging the ground water table.
Reuse Water
Segregation of grey water and Black water at buildings will help in local treatment and reuse of grey water for flushing within buildings as well as irrigation of landscaped areas.
Establish Decentralized
Sewage Treatment System
GMUC must consider installing a decentralized sewage treatment plants (STP) catering to a capped capacity of 30 MLD. These STPs should strategically be located within open spaces with sufficient buffers.
Use Open Spaces
to Clean Water
The treated discharge from the STPs can then be cleaned in a natural reed bed system, to form destination water bodies within landscape and also help in irrigating the open spaces.
Recycle Waste
Segregation of waste in organic and inorganic form can help recycling the waste generated within the city. The recycling industry as well as a sorting facility should be promoted and accommodated into the IMT Manesar Area.
Explore Waste to Energy
The organic waste generated within the development should to be treated in a biogas plant, to generate electricity for powering the open spaces.
Use Open Space for Composting Organic Waste
Workshops and training programs on waste composting should encourage community gardening within open spaces.
Promote growing and Selling Local Food
Urban farming should be encouraged and promoted within open spaces. The local produce can be made available at local bazaars and farmer's markets located within the open spaces.
