The City of Gurgaon, often tagged as "The Millennium City" of India, is a microcosm of an urban India. Each city has a basic character that is shaped by its unique set of challenges and aspirations. This chapter aims to understand the DNA of the City of Gurgaon, its unique challenges pertaining to its identity, social parameters, sense of security, infrastructure and utilities, and the livability component. It is a soul searching attempt of understanding what Gurgaon really is and outlining the reason of the path that the city has taken in its course of rapid development over the past two decades.
